Knobby veg is making a comeback as supermarkets agree to sell weather-beaten but delicious produce

Hurrah! Waitrose have announced they’re putting ugly fruit and vegetables on the menu by stocking apples, affected by this year’s maverick weather, on their fresh fruit and veg shelves.

The apples might look worse for wear but they taste just as delicious as their better-looking cousins.

At delicious. magazine we welcome this news as a long-awaited victory for knobbly veg.

Back in September 2010 we started a campaign to get ugly fruit and veg back into the marketplace.

Shoppers and stores have been turning their nose up at knobbly, dirty, scuffed-up produce for too long meaning perfectly good food has been going to waste.

Enough of the picture-perfect, shiny produce, we said, let’s show some love to the curiously shaped fruits. Since then loads of you have shown your support, sent us your knobbly veg lookalikes and shared your own (sometimes saucy) veg in our Knobbly Veg Facebook gallery.
