Mandoline [man-doh-lin]

Not to  be confused with a musical instrument, this helpful gadget saves time in the kitchen.

A rather scary-looking contraption that allows fruit and vegetables to be sliced with ruthless efficiency and consistency. With basic models, the cook slides the food over one of several blades and immaculate slices (or julienned matchsticks) fall onto a plate below. Mandoline is also spelled without an ‘e’.
