Galway International Oyster Festival, Ireland
The highlight of this world-famous event must be the World Oyster Opening Championship which will see hundreds of competitors from around the world attempt to open oysters at speed before washing them down with Guinness. Last year saw 100,000 being consumed! There are also oyster tastings and cookery demonstrations on offer, as well as freshly cooked dishes containing that special ingredient.
