This clever recipe gives a stylish and contemporary twist to the classic French croque monsieur sandwich.
Ingredients
- 2 x 150g mozzarella balls, drained and thinly sliced
- 4 slices pumpernickel or rye bread, halved
- 4 slices prosciutto or ham
Method
- 1. Preheat the grill to medium-high. Arrange the cheese slices in a single layer on top of half the bread. Season, add a prosciutto or ham slice to each, and sandwich with the remaining bread, pressing down gently.
- 2. Place on a baking sheet and grill for 2 minutes each side, until the mozzarella is just starting to soften and ooze. Wrap 1 end of each finger sandwich in a short length of folded baking paper and arrange on a serving platter. Serve hot.
