Packed with fruit and nuts, TV presenter Jayne Middlemiss' spiced porridge recipe takes breakfast to a whole other dimension.

Spiced porridge

Ingredients

  1. 175g rolled porridge oats
  2. 900ml skimmed milk
  3. Pinch freshly ground nutmeg
  4. Pinch ground ginger
  5. ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  6. 100g dried cherries
  7. 2 red apples, cored, 1 coarsely grated and 1 thinly sliced
  8. Small handful pecans, roughly chopped
  9. 2 tbsp runny honey

Method

  1. 1. Mix the porridge oats, milk, ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon together in a saucepan and place over a medium heat. Bring to the boil and then simmer for 6 minutes, stirring, until thickened and tender.
  2. 2. Stir through the cherries, grated apple and pecans. Spoon between bowls and trop with the sliced apple and a drizzle of honey.
