Fresh steamed cabbage is one of the tastiest ways to eat your greens! Serve with a delicious roast loin of lamb on Sunday.
Ingredients
- 1 cabbage
- Knob of butter (optional)
Method
- 1. Cut the cabbage in half – you may need an adult to help – then into quarters. Remove the tough, hard stalk from each quarter (if you have pet rabbits, they’ll love the stalks). Cut the cabbage into thin strips on a chopping board with a sharp knife.
- 2. Quarter-fill a pan with water and bring to the boil. Put the thinly sliced cabbage into a steamer (or colander) and put this on top of the pan (ask for help with this, and be extra careful when removing the lid – steam can be even hotter than boiling water, and you could easily scald yourself). Put the lid on and steam the cabbage for about 4 minutes, until it’s cooked, but not too soft. Spoon the cooked cabbage into a warm serving dish, and add a knob of butter, if you like.
