February recipes & inspiration
We’re all about treating ourselves in February, a month that offers myriad reasons to do so, from celebratory occasions to exciting new seasonal produce to cook with (hello, forced rhubarb!) and wintery roast dinners.
Find everything you need for Shrove Tuesday, from how to nail classic crepes and perfect American-style pancakes to sweet and savoury topping inspiration. Make this the year you trade lemon and sugar for caramelised bananas – or create a tiramisu-inspired stack to share. Pancake Day is late in the calendar in 2024 (4 March) – a great excuse fit in a few extra flipping sessions…
We’ve also got 100s of baking projects, from weekend challenges to easy cakes and traybakes ideal for occupying children during the February half term.
We love Pancake Day!
We’ve got sweet and savoury ideas galore, as well as a guide to walk you through how to make traditional pancakes. Get things started with our easy pancake recipe – the classic we all know and love – or jazz things up with gingerbread-spiced American-style pancakes or savoury French galettes. We’ve got vegan blueberry pancakes, too. Adventurous cooks should try these sky-high soufflé pancakes and Indian pudla (Gujarati crêpes) from food writer Mallika Basu. Or throw a Pancake Day party in 2025 and try a variety. Let’s get flipping!
February's seasonal delights
Looking for ideas for what to cook with in-season vegetables and fruit this February? Seasonal ingredients in late winter include a glittering display of bracing seafood, from nutritious mussels to mackerel, as well as fabulously dark greens, such as curly kale and purple sprouting broccoli. Desserts are bright and beautiful at this time of year: think blood oranges in the form of our glorious steamed pudding, and that game-changing February ingredient: tender forced rhubarb.
Satisfying roast dinners
The depths of winter are the perfect opportunity to savour a cosy roast dinner. We’re got ideas galore to elevate your Sunday lunch, from cream-smothered tarragon roast chicken and roast leg of lamb with an earthy DIY spice rub to the recipe for roast pork belly with foolproof crackling. And if you’re someone that believes the roasties are the best part of the meal, discover new side dish inspiration too. This best-ever red cabbage recipe has had rave reviews. Or how about roast carrots with floral spiced butter?
