GBBO episode 6: The good, the bad and the ugly

Last week Bake Off embraced my sweet tooth with an abundance of puddings. In episode 6, ‘pastry week’, Paul and Prue raised the bar with three pastry challenges designed to make the contestants flake and crumble. Yes, puns intended.

Find out who was the apple of my pies and who provided soggy bottoms in this week’s roundup of the good, the bad and the ugly moments.

The good
I only have eyes for Sophie’s vegetarian pies. Blue cheese, squash and spinach… *drool*.

I just love how Liam always goes the extra mile with decorating his bakes. That buttery, flaky pastry with the chorizo filling is exactly what I want for lunch.

Yan’s pastéis de nata looked like perfection. The type of perfection I want in my face, right now.

How sweet was the moment when Steven helped Kate with her pastry. Isn’t he just adorable? Yes.

Steven’s hand-raised pie may have been a little bland, but by golly, it looked stunning.

I could’ve dived into Liam’s pie and hung out in there for a while. No one was surprised when he was crowned star baker (I was always rooting for you Liam!).

The bad
“Pastry can smell fear” according to Stacey. Oh, come on love.

Julia putting raw sausage meat in her pies made me feel really nervous… Especially for Paul and Prue.

Kate’s anaemic pies weren’t a treat for the eyes and unfortunately, they had soggy bottoms too.

Kate didn’t have a very good run this week and her burnt pastéis de nata were a disappointment to say the least.

Julia apparently got the wrong memo and created a tough shortcrust pastry for her tarts… Ultimately landing her 7th place in the technical, and sadly sending her home.

The moment when Stacey realised that there was a bit of parchment paper at the bottom of her pie.

The ugly
Yan’s pies looked a bit like a dog’s breakfast. The over-cooked, curried chicken looked less than appetising.

I don’t ever want to see a pie with blood-red lips and the word ‘kiss’ on it ever again.

Stacey’s hand-raised pie did stop the show, but not in a good way. What a disaster.

Episode seven brings us something a little different. Yes, folks it’s Italian week! Well, ciao for now.
