It Wouldn’t Be Christmas Without… Rick Stein’s sparkling Shiraz

This week, we find out Rick Stein’s Christmas tipple and talk about his Secret France as well as the legacy of his late director, fellow bon viveur and friend David Pritchard.

Join me every week for our “It Wouldn’t Be Christmas Without” podcasts, which follows a series of well-known chefs and foodies as they show me what Christmas really means to them.

It might come as a surprise… but Rick Stein’s favourite festive tipple is actually sparkling Shiraz. Having been introduced to it years ago by a friend, he admits it’s the one thing he can’t be without at Christmas time.

In this week’s podcast, we catch up on all things France, and indeed Rick’s love for the country. We go all the way back, to his teenage years, to chat about how he first fell in love with France and why he’s gone back time and time again over the years. His new book Secret France is likely to be top of many foodie’s Christmas wish-lists this year.

We also talk about the legacy of the man behind both Rick and Keith Floyd’s incredible careers; director, restauranteur and Rick’s personal friend, the late David Pritchard.
