Welcome to the new book club

By editor Karen Barnes

About a year ago, maybe a bit longer, the team and I had the idea of doing a feature in the magazine where a group of friends, all of whom love to cook, chose a favourite classic cookbook, then got together to cook recipes from it. My kind of evening!

The book they chose was Simon Hopkinson’s Roast Chicken And Other Stories. The recipes were a storming success and good times were had by all. There may have been wine involved…

That got me thinking: wouldn’t it be great if delicious. Cookbook Clubs started springing up all around the country? So we’ve set up this special hub on our website, with lots of inspiration for potential books you could choose for a delicious. Cookbook Club evening.

We’d love to hear how you get on, so please write to info@deliciousmagazine.co.uk and tell us – we might just drop in and see you! Meanwhile, online editor Becs and I are setting up the founding branch of the delicious. Cookbook Club, so now all we need are a few more members and to have a heated discussion about what our first book will be.

I’m thinking the first Moro cookbook, by Sam and Sam Clark, as it’s the book that first got me into cooking with Spanish and North African flavours and it’s a gem (pork belly with fennel and garlic and the BEST crispy crackling…. Yes). I used to use it all the time but haven’t for a while, so it would be good to go back to the recipes and see how they seem now – and to share them with Becs, who I think was still at school when the book was published! I can’t wait to hear what her first choice would be… We’ll keep you posted.
