What they do
Katie Taylor is the proprietor of Drewton’s Farm Shop, which is based in converted farm buildings on the Drewton Estate owned by her family. A champion of Yorkshire produce, Katie has built up a network of more than 250 Yorkshire-based farmers, growers and suppliers, and the shop is stocked full of local produce alongside products made onsite, including Drewton’s sausages and sausage rolls.

Dedicated to encouraging people to think about where their food comes from, Katie insists on clear labelling that highlights the provenance of ingredients, and regularly holds events such as themed dinners and school visits at the shop.

Katie’s influence on the region stretches beyond food, with the shop employing more than 40 people and working with another 40 local companies for all design, marketing and accounting needs. In addition, Drewton’s has raised over £7,000 since it opened in 2012 for charities and community groups.

Surrounded by more than 1,000 acres of arable land and with two working farms, caring for nature and the environment are paramount on the estate. Bees are looked after to ensure pollination of crops, and a biomass boiler has been installed as part of Drewton’s renewable energy programme.
