Oranges in maple syrup

Method

1.  Ask an adult to use a serrated knife to cut the top and bottom off 1 orange. Stand it on a board, then carefully cut a strip from top to bottom. Repeat all the way round to remove the peel and white pith, and discard. Set aside the orange, scraping any juices into a medium saucepan. Repeat with another 3 oranges.
2.  Finely grate the zest from the remaining 2 oranges and add to the juice in the saucepan. Cut the tops and bottoms off each orange and remove the skin and white pith as before, adding any juices to the pan. Add the maple syrup to the pan, then gently heat for 3 minutes. Set aside for 10 minutes to cool.
3.  Using the serrated knife, cut each orange across into 4-5 circles. Push a cocktail stick through the centre of each slice to reshape into a round and hold together. Serve each orange with warm orange syrup poured over it.
