HungryBecs in New York: Part 7

Guess who’s back, back again… Becs is back, tell a friend. That’s right, I’m back in the Big Apple – this time for a shorter 4-week stint. The snow has cleared, temperatures have risen and spring is finally threatening to make an appearance in the city.

I’ve been back four days but I’ve hit the ground running… and hungry. Let’s go.

Greecologies is one of those places that you walk past every day but never venture in. But I urge you, do go to this yogurt lab in Nolita for a freshly whizzed yogurt smoothie. I had the carrot and mint which was refreshing and filling but there are also other flavours as well as savoury salads and mezze plates.

Parisi Bakery
This Italian bakery has been run by the same family for over 100 years – it’s no wonder it’s a New York staple with queues out the door to prove it. The deli on Mott Street is where to go to get your sandwich fix and ‘The Dennis’ is one of the most popular. A HUGE baguette filled with breaded chicken, prosciutto, mozzarella, pesto, tomato and balsamic will fill you up until dinner and beyond. (quarter for scale!)

Sweet and Vicious
There’s nothing better than happy hour after work… apart from happy hour after work in the spring sunshine. Sweet and Vicious sell jargaritas (frozen margarita in a jar) for $8 and they have a beer garden to drink it in. Double win.

Dudleys
A bustling Lower East Side restaurant with brilliant street-facing windows (that remain open when it’s warm) which are perfect for sitting in, drinking wine or cocktails, eating (the burrata with beetroot, grapefruit and pistachios was divine) and watching the world go by.

Barrio Chino
There’s always a queue to get into the buzzy Mexican restaurant but the brilliant margaritas, excellent guacamole and even better tacos make the inevitable wait worthwhile.

Spring Street Natural
A huge airy restaurant with a greenhouse vibe that’s great for a casual lunch. But don’t expect healthy – the taco salad comes with a rainbow-coloured array of corn chips hiding a multitude of sins including soured cream, cheese, beans, rice, guacamole and grilled corn.

More again next week!
