The winners of the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2015

By Sophie Pryn

A smiling macaroon seller, a gaggle of geese, a Mondrian battenberg cake and a set of scales full of gawping gurnards – this year’s Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2015 exemplified the art and diversity of food photography.

David Griffen was the overall winner of the award with his photo Smoked Wings. “The interesting thing about this photo” said the chair of judges Jay Rayner, “is that, not only is this man smoking the wings but he is also smoking himself”. A cause for concern for the Food Standards Agency, yes, but it also captures a fascinating air of confidence. You can almost smell all of that billowing smoke.

We heard from David later in the evening – he ate a couple of those very wings and lived to tell the tale.
