The cruise ship Iona, which launches in 2020, will be home to the first craft gin distillery at sea, its beautiful copper still producing gin to individual tastes as part of the ship’s gin-distilling masterclasses. Tradition dictates that a gin still is given a name, often linked to the time, place or people who are using it – and P&O Cruises is turning to delicious. readers for inspiration.

The winning name for the still will be chosen by a P&O Cruises panel of experts, including delicious. editor Karen Barnes. Its creator will win a seven-night cruise for two with a choice of itineraries: the magnificent Norwegian Fjords or vibrant Western Europe, taking in the ports of Rotterdam and Hamburg.

You’ll see the still displaying your winning name and experience Iona’s gin-distilling masterclass at sea. In the class, guests can select their own botanicals, which will reflect the ship’s destinations, to create a unique bottle. Be inspired by the herby, earthy flavours of Norway or the zesty citrus aromas of Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands.

Designed to make sea and sky the stars of the journey, Iona will feature a stunning glass dome on the top deck,  a central atrium framed by three storey-high glass walls and 30 restaurants and bars.

The winner and guest will enjoy accommodation in a balcony cabin, two complimentary shore excursions and £1,000 to spend on board. As prizes go, they don’t get much more inspiring, memorable or refreshing than this.
