Plum recipes
It’s plum season – hurrah! Our best-ever plum recipes make the most of this underrated fruit, which are usually available from August to October.
Plums herald the seasonal shift from summer to early autumn. They’re the perfect additional to cosy-season puds. Think plum and sloe-gin crumble, served with a big jug of homemade custard. How about spiced plum cake covered with a cloud of swiss-meringue frosting? Or perhaps a simple plum and almond traybake?
Plums also work well in savoury dishes thanks to their natural tartness and gentle sweetness. Try duck with spiced plums, or colourful mozzarella, plum and burnt leek salad.
If you’re feeling like preserving the bounty, Japanese umeboshi can be made with British plums, and are well worth trying out, or try an easy plum and vanilla jam.
