Overnight oats are similar to porridge but rely on time rather than heat to become creamy and soft. A few minutes of prep in the evening and you have an easy, nutritious breakfast the next day. Before you start

A pinch of ground cinnamon or ginger will add some spice. Or try a little vanilla extract for sweetness. Add a grated apple, pear or a few tablespoons of berries for a fruity boost or stir in some nuts or seeds for crunch.

Ingredients

  • 50g rolled oats
  • 100ml whole milk
  • Nut butter, honey, yogurt and/or fruit to serve

Method

  1. In a container or jar, stir together the oats, milk and a small pinch of salt. Cover and pop in the fridge overnight.
  2. The next day, add a splash more milk or water, if needed, to loosen and leave to come to room temperature for 30 minutes (or longer if you’re taking them on the go). You can also warm in a microwave if you prefer.
  3. Add your chosen toppings and enjoy.
