Tinto de verano (Spanish red wine cocktail)
Tinto de verano is a popular Spanish cocktail made with red wine and lemon-lime soda. It’s an easier, lighter version of sangria and so simple it almost isn’t a recipe.
- Take it easy: Tinto de verano is one of those drinks that just works. Perfect for summertime sipping, it’s a long cocktail that you can enjoy without overdoing it. It’s basically sangria without the faff!
- Simple swaps: Replace the lemonade with Coca-Cola to create kalimotxo, which tends to be popular in the Basque country. (Don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it!).
- Budget-friendly: There’s no need to use the finest wine you have in this cocktail – a cheaper tempranillo or other light-bodied Spanish red is perfect.
- Scale it up: This is a very easy drink to make for a crowd – just mix equal parts wine and lemonade in a jug.
