Quince recipes

Quince is a true autumnal delight. Make the most of this underrated fruit with our delicious quince recipes.

Quince looks like a cross between a green apple and a knobbly pear, which is unsurprising as they are all part of the rosaceae family. Quince fruits start off green and then ripen to a beautiful golden-yellow.

The raw fruits are often tart and astringent. Cooking them is a brilliant way to coax out their sweetness. Cooked quince is citrussy and floral and a gorgeous addition to desserts and cheeseboards.

Scroll on down for traditional quince recipes including the Spanish quince paste, membrillo, and classic quince jelly. Serve the former with manchego and the latter with roast game.

Dessert options include an incredible apple and quince tart from Rick Stein, rustic quince crostadas and a cosy autumn bake (don’t scrimp on the caramel custard).

Quince is usually in season from October to December, so make the most of this under-the-radar fruit with our delicious recipes…
