Blood orange recipes

The crimson colour of a blood orange isn’t the only brilliant thing about this citrus fruit. Their floral, slightly sweeter flavour lends well to both sweet and savoury dishes, and we’ve got plenty of inspiration to discover. They have a short moment of availability – around January to March in the UK, and fresh fruits are pretty much impossible to get hold of outside this season.

It makes the perfect partner to chocolate: check out our chocolate, blood orange and hazelnut cake, or our dark chocolate mousse with blood orange gel. Pair the citrus with buttery pastry in our blood orange tart with cardamom cream, or our vanilla cheesecake with blood oranges and caramel.

Savoury more your style? Diana Henry’s chicken marsala is a wonderful celebration of flavour, or complement razor clams with blood orange, too.

Make sure nothing is wasted: discover 5 clever ways to use up citrus peels.
